Study: Evolution of the bacterium Serratia marcescens under several experimental temperature treatments (fluctuating and constant temperatures)
show Abstracthide Abstract
This study aimed to understand the molecular basis of evolution in Serratia marcescens populations exposed to different temperature treatments in the lab. The original evolution experiment is described in Ketola et al. 2013 (doi: 10.1111/evo.12148). In brief, experimental evolution took place either under fluctuating temperature (daily variation between 24°C and 38°C) or under one of two constant temperature treatments (constant temperature treatments used: 31°C and 38°C). Random clones were selected from the evolution experiment and used in PacBio SMRT sequencing to generate complete genetic and epigenetic datasets. DNA extraction for sequencing was performed from liquid cultures grown for 24h in common garden conditions after being inoculated with overnight precultures initiated from the frozen stocks of the clones selected for sequencing.
Sample: Serratia marcescens, clone Sm_S89_jyu2015 from an evolution experiment
